I live just outside Atlantic City NJ. I used to make the 75 mile drive to Glenside to dance, but I got tired of the gender imbalance (always too many men.) Now most of the time I go there it's to play with the SPUDS pickup band. I suffered a stroke on Feb 15 which hit me in the brain stem and badly affected my balance. I can still play guitar, and I plan to be with SPUDS on Thurs March 29 at Glenside, if I'm able to drive by then.
I'm recovering rapidly from my stroke, and I hope to be able to leave the stage and dance one or two that night without falling down. These days I prefer dancing at the Arden Gild Hall in Arden Delaware, just north of Wilmington, 20 mins S of Phila on I-95. It's the same distance from me as Glenside, in a beautiful century-old building and has a better gender balance. I hope to be ready for that at their 1st-Sunday dance in April.

Lisa & Dave,
It was great to see some faces I recognized from my New England travels down here much closer to my home. Thanks for the dance, Dave. I'm looking forward to reading about your dance adventures. Have a great trip!

The "contra corners" square is a new one of mine I intend to use a lot;

No Cutting Corners keeper square, HSHS

A1.  Heads forward and back
       Heads pass through, separate and go around two

A2. At sides lines forward and back
       With couple across hands-across star L

B1.  Sides hands-across star R 1/2, neighbor allemande L  (1)
       Sides hands-across star R 1/2, corner allemande L

B2.  Partner swing at home

(1) - The neighbor is the gent's right hand lady or lady's left hand gent. The key teaching point here is making sure all know who their opposite's partner is, a shadow. In forming the star Rs one must quickly take R with their shadow to get the contra corners effect.
